Explore, Enjoy, and Protect the Planet.

The Sierra Club's mission is to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth.  We promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources through education & practice.   Founded by John Muir in 1892, we utilize grassroots activism to fulfill its mission to protect what is sacred.

We are one of four groups in the Santa Barbara-Ventura Chapter and invite everyone from Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Ojai, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Piru, Somis, El Rio, Port Hueneme, and all the places in between to join us.

History

Founded in 0 Founded on May 28, 1892, in San Francisco by naturalist John Muir, the Sierra Club is one of the oldest and largest grassroots environmental organizations in the United States. Originally created to explore, enjoy, and protect the Sierra Nevada mountains, it quickly became a leading force in conservation, successfully lobbying for the protection of Yosemite and the expansion of the National Park system.  The club has grown to have chapters in all 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico.   The Sierra Club operates as a major environmental lobbying organization focused on equity, justice, and tackling climate change.

Ventura Sierra Club has a formal Outings program with regular hikes, and monthly meetings with a variety of environmental, outdoor enthusiast, conservationists, & wildlife advocate speakers.  These meetings are always free to the public.  Come join us & bring a friend!
