Kathy Nolan is a dedicated landscape architect and community leader deeply rooted in Ojai, where she has raised her family and thrived as a local business owner. With a comprehensive background in horticulture, agriculture, botany, and landscape architecture, Kathy brings over two decades of expertise to her role. She co-founded the Ojai Tree Committee and played a pivotal role in crafting the City of Ojai Community Forest Management Plan, reflecting her commitment to sustainable urban planning and environmental stewardship. As a former Planning Commissioner and chair of Complete Streets, Kathy advocated for inclusive and accessible urban design, ensuring that community voices were heard in shaping the city’s infrastructure. Her passion for permaculture and sustainable living is evident in her work with the regional local food community, where she co-started a food co-op and engaged with the Santa Barbara Farmers Market.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Kathy is a devoted advocate for community empowerment and holistic healing. She holds certifications in Urban and International Permaculture and draws inspiration from the interconnectedness of natural systems. Whether she’s hiking the trails of Ojai, tending to her food forest, or exploring the healing arts, Kathy remains dedicated to solving complex challenges and fostering harmony within ecosystems and communities alike. Her values of respect, inclusivity, and visionary planning underscore her mission to create meaningful, lasting impacts in Ojai and beyond.
Caryn Bosson is a longtime resident of the Ojai Valley, rooted in her commitment to youth empowerment and environmental stewardship. From founding the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation to years at TreePeople in Los Angeles, to local leadership at The C.R.E.W., Caryn’s influence has shaped numerous community and educational initiatives.
A former Lead Facilitator at the Center for Nonprofit Leadership, she has served as a nonprofit consultant specializing in nonprofit boards, strategic planning, fundraising, and communications.
Richard Wegman has spent nearly five decades working in leadership positions for peace, conservation, health, and the environment. With an MBA in Finance, he has served as Chief Operating Officer for organizations including TreePeople, Global Green USA, Kiss the Ground, and Heal the Bay. He also currently serves on the board of Amazon Watch, as well as Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs.
Along with his professional wisdom, Richard brings experience as a 27-year yoga teacher, breath work teacher, and Reiki healer.
Sophie McLean brings a deep connection to the land of the Ojai Valley. A Ventura County native, she began her love for plants working on a sustainable and biodynamic farm in high school, and carried that to Montana State University studying Plant Biology. Her education opened up worlds in botany, restoration science, and sustainable food systems.
Now the Native Plant Specialist and Nursery Manager at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy, we are fortunate to have Sophie share her passion for our local ecology and botany.
Lauren Nilsson is a communications and marketing professional with 20+ years experience in the technology and biotechnology industries. She is passionate about conservation, carbon capture, coyotes, heat-pump appliances, gardening, sourdough (except in the summer), and finding the perfect grey sweatshirt.
An Ojai native, she is the mother of two daughters. In addition to her work with Ojai Valley Green Coalition, Lauren is a board member at Food for Thought and the executive director of Ojai Trees. She spends her spare time writing and illustrating stories for her children.
Mark Silbernagel retired from a career as a chemical engineer responsible for designing and testing water treatment systems, primarily seawater desalination systems.
He now volunteers at local organizations and farms, harvesting fruit, planting trees, doing trail work, pulling invasives, and growing vegetables and native plants. He leads volunteer projects with the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy and is a Harvest Leader for Food Forward, as well as a Climate Steward trained by the Community Environmental Council.
Dass Richardson, a former faculty member at Oak Grove School, was voted the Ojai Valley’s Best Art Teacher, and created and ran a reuse center/education program for 11 years called “The Junk Trunk."
Now Dass is an active volunteer with the OV Green Coalition, and a Climate Steward through the Community Environmental Council. She has hosted a Clothing Swap and presentation on Fast Fashion, and co-organized an art show about bees. Dass is passionate about inspiring positive environmental change through art and education.
