Film Festival Weekend: Eco-options

Go GREEN over Ojai’s eco-friendly uniqueness by taking a walk with Ojai Daytripper during the weekend of The Ojai Film Festival! Saturday and Sunday, October 27-28, Ojai Daytripper together with The Ojai Valley Green Coalition will offer an inspiring and fun guided walking tour for you to experience Ojai’s current and future GREEN projects. PLUS, discover how the city is preserving and revitalizing old village monuments and open land spaces to be treasured for generations to come. Learn how Ojai has “upcycled” instead of torn down buildings, and fitted into instead of over the natural environment.
$12 each for a 45 minute tour ($3 from each walk is donated by Ojai Daytripper to The Ojai Valley Green Coalition). Tours leave from the Libbey Park Fountain on the hour from 10am to noon and 2pm to 4pm, Sat., and Sun. www.ojaidaytripper.com (805) 921-6319.

Community Gathering & Fall Feast – Nov 30

Our fall community gathering is planned for Friday, November 30. Mingle with neighbors, share a potluck supper and join in the evening’s program focused on “Exploring a Food Cooperative for the Ojai Valley”.
We’ll gather as usual at the Chaparral Auditorium, 414 E. Ojai Avenue. The evening will begin with a meet and greet from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m., food sharing from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m., followed by the program. There will also be information tables to learn about many of the Coalition’s activities.

Come share and celebrate our fall’s bounty with your favorite salad, entrée, or dessert featuring seasonal, local and organic ingredients. To reduce our landfill waste, please bring your own table service (plate, silverware, mug, and cloth napkin). For more information email noel@ojaivalleygreencoalition.org or call (805) 669-8445.

Ojai Day 2012

For this year’s annual Ojai Day on Saturday, October 20, the OVGC will offer attendees a free bike valet service. To reduce the number of cars descending on the downtown area as people arrive for the festivities, we’re setting up a bike check service at Ojai Avenue and Ventura Street on the ‘Go Green’ block. In offering the service, we hope to encourage attendees to benefit the environment by pedaling to the event, rather than driving.
The great block party known as Ojai Day attracts more local participants than any other event in the year. The valet bike parking service will be like a coat check for bicycles: bicycle riders will be issued a claim check for their bikes, which will be guarded by Coalition members in a secure “bike corral.” This means that the bicycles—as well as accessories such as helmets—will be safe from damage or theft.
We hope to see you there on two wheels!

Biking a Green Opportunity at This Year’s Green Home & Building Tour

2012BikeTour.JPG
Saturday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Ojai Valley Green Coalition invites you to go truly green while taking its popular Green Home and Building Tour. This year’s five tour sites are all within 3.5 miles of the Tour’s Will Call at The MOB Shop, 110 W. Ojai Avenue, Ojai.
With a pit stop to re-hydrate at each location and a special ‘bike route’ option on our tour map it seems like a great idea to bike the tour this year.
If you don’t own a bike, or are planning a visit from out of town, that’s no problem. The MOB Shop is offering a special discount bike rental package to Green Tour ticket holders, $5 off the regular bike day rate and $10 off the electric bike day rate. To check rates go to The MOB Shop rental page at http://themobshop.com/rentals.htm.
If you’d like to go green and reserve a bike to ensure that there is a rental waiting for you, please call (805) 272-8102. On the morning of the tour, simply show your tour brochure at the counter, mount your bike, and you’ll be ready to roll the green way.
So, let’s get out of our cars and see the beautiful valley of Ojai up close and personal while we learn how to improve our built environment.
Tour tickets are $10 and can be picked up at the ‘Will Call’ at The MOB Shop. For more information or to purchase tickets in advance go to www.ojaivalleygreentour.com
