When you go to the store to shop for groceries on Saturday, Dec. 20, from 10 am to 2 pm, you will be offered a free reusable shopping bag, compliments of the Ojai Valley Green Coalition and its partners. Ojai’s first Day Without A Bag is being staged to encourage the use of reusable bags, which will save landfill space, clean up our waterways, and reduce the amount of oil consumed and the amount of global greenhouse gases emitted in the manufacture of throw-away plastic bags. Partners who helped underwrite the cost of the reusable bags include the City of Ojai, Ojai Certified Farmers' Market, Ken Wright & Sons, Harrison Industries, Consolidated Disposal Services, Water Conservation Technologies Inc., and Showerminder. The Green Coalition tables offering the bags will be located at Vons, Starr, Rite Aid, Rainbow Bridge and Westridge Markets.
