The Ojai Valley Green Coalition is partnering with the Ojai Library, The Ojai Valley Library Friends and Foundation and the Krotona Bookstore to sponsor the second book in their Ojai Reads series. The reading period for The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight by Thom Hartmann is from August 1 through November 3. It is 370 pages long and subtitled ‘The Fate of the World and What We Can Do Before It’s Too Late.’ There will be a group discussion about the book on Nov. 3, 7 pm at the Ojai Library. The event flyer is Here.
The first section of the book looks at the science of all living things. Hartmann compares our use of fossil fuels to a ponzi scheme. He discusses the “crisis” in the oceans and aquifers, as well as the extinction of species and climate change. Section two asks the question “How did We Get Here?” Our culture and the struggle between power and cooperation in a social structure are examined for clues. In the third and final section Hartmann offers some suggestions as to what we can do about all this. He suggests that transforming culture and transforming politics are interrelated. The book proposes that the answer lies in changing the way we think, talk and act.
Books may be purchased from the Krotona Bookstore for $15. Members of the Ojai Valley Green Coalition have some books for sale as well. Look for a table near the Farmers’ Market on Sundays.
